A Mother's Worst Day-Mare

Do you ever see your kid do something that could potentially be dangerous and then have these crazy visions of it turning really bad?

Say, your kid puts their finger by the hinges on an open door and all of a sudden you have this thought of the door being slammed closed by the wind, shrill screams, an amputated pinky finger laying on the floor. A panicked you calling 911. Rushing to the freezer to put that tiny little finger on ice.

I have these thoughts, oh about ten times a day.

The smoke alarms go off in the middle of the night and for the first time your kid is actually sleeping in their own bed in their own room down the hall, you sprint down the hall only to find a blazing fire is encasing your precious child's room.

These thoughts are absolutely disturbing yet I can't stop myself from having them. I'm not usually one to worry, in fact I am quite the opposite. I 'go with the flow' and I don't take things too seriously. For some reason these thoughts come to me often, even though I know they would be so unlikely. Although they do happen for some people, it's not something you should think about multiple times every day.

My house is relatively safe for a 15 month old. She can't get into the cupboard under the sink where all the cleaning supplies is, she can't stick her fingers in the outlets. There is only so much you can 'baby proof', and make things safe while still having a functional living space. I think it is also important NOT to baby proof too much, otherwise you can't teach your child boundaries and what's ok and not ok to touch or play with.

I try not to take my 'day-mares' too serious because I know they are so wild and most of them are very unlikely to happen. Do age appropriate toys have a tendency to impale a child if they fall near it?

Anyone else in the same boat? What has been your wildest day-mare about your child's safety?

I remember bring like that when my kids were small. I think it just comes with mommyhood. As time goes by, you will think of these things less, although it never really stops. My kids are adults, and I still worry! Your daughter is adorable. Enjoy your time with her! I'm a new follower from the weekend hop.

I think they ease up but even as a mom of older kids......you never stop worrying.

How cute is your daughter?!? My worst day-mare is nothing compared to yours...our hot water is turned up extra hot...so, it has always been a thing of mine to ALWAYS remind my daughter not to mess with the bathtub water faucet or sink hot water handles. My fear is that she'll get a little rebellious whim or just want to "test mommy" and see just how hot that water is. Ooooohhh...the horror!

I have these 'day-mares' constantly now that my baby is a hyper 2 year old who loves to touch EVERYTHING and is afraid of nothing! My biggest fear these days is that he's somehow gone outside! I have locks on all the doors and safety locks on the knobs, but he learns so fast I'm afraid one day he'll figure it out right when I'm not there watching! Lucky for us, chances are that nothing will happen to our little ones even if we don't watch every second :)

First off, you are completely normal.. I believe, lol. Because I do the same thing. I think its a first time mommy thing. I don't think you have to worry about your kids toys hurting the if they fall near them. However, when my first baby was a toddler and at the sitters she was playing with a toy truck and walking with it, somehow she slipped and fell into it and bit a hole in her tongue. After rushing to get her and rushing to the drs office, she is completely ok, not a tongue issue and no stitches, thankfully. Now I have a 9 month old and I am able to relax a bit more, I know she will be ok (hopefully). Good luck with your beautiful baby girl. You sound like a great mommmy.
